Four F-35 fighter jets ordered from the US arrived in Denmark on Thursday, according to the Danish Armed Forces.

The jets were welcomed at the Skrydstrup Airbase by senior military officials, politicians and members of the media, it said in a statement.

“Thus, the Royal Danish Air Force and the defense of Denmark enter a new era,” it added.

Denmark selected the F-35 in 2016 for the country’s new fighter program.

Parliament approved the purchase of 27 F-35 jets for $2.2 billion in 2017.
