Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau released a statement Wednesday marking the beginning Muslims' holy month of Ramadan.

"Tonight, at sundown, Muslim communities in Canada and across the world will mark the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan," Trudeau said.

He highlighted the significance of the month, noting that families and friends will gather for prayers and share the evening meal, iftar, after fasting from dawn till sunset.

"For those practicing, this is a sacred time to reflect and celebrate," he added.

Trudeau also addressed the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, saying, "The sacred month comes at a particularly challenging time, as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to unfold."

He reaffirmed Canada's stance in supporting a "sustainable ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all remaining hostages, and the safe, unimpeded access to humanitarian relief for civilians."

The prime minister also recognized the contributions of the nearly 1.8 million Muslims in Canada, emphasizing their role in enriching the country's diversity and prosperity.

"On behalf of the Government of Canada, I extend my wishes for a blessed and peaceful Ramadan to all those practicing," he said, concluding his message with "Ramadan Mubarak."
