Canada has expanded its evacuation efforts for citizens in the Middle East as the regional situation continues to deteriorate, Foreign Minister Anita Anand said Monday.

"As the situation in the Middle East continues to change rapidly, I am receiving real-time updates on efforts to assist Canadians in leaving the region," Anand said in a statement on X.

She confirmed that 55 Canadians used buses arranged by the Canadian government from Tel Aviv to Jordan on Monday, while seven more were transported from the occupied West Bank.

"Canada also has 4 buses stationed in Türkiye at the border crossing from Iran. Yesterday 10 Canadians used this service," she added.

All evacuees are being brought to areas where Canadian officials are helping them connect with commercial travel options, she said.

"Canada has increased its consular presence in the region in order to better help Canadians who have made their own travel arrangements," she said.

She added: "Canada has more capacity to facilitate travel out of the region and we encourage all Canadians still there to avail themselves of these options."
