California’s Gifford Fire has burned over 26,305 hectares (65,000 acres) across Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties with only 3% containment since last Friday, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection data showed Monday.
Numerous residences, energy, and communication infrastructure face threats, prompting evacuations and area closures due to the wildfire burning near the Los Padres National Forest, the National Interagency Fire Center said.
The fire threatens 460 buildings, and three people have been injured in fire-related incidents, reported Fox News.
The blaze is burning through grass, brush, and chaparral shrubland plants 15 miles (24 kilometers) northeast of Santa Maria, said the center.
The fire is burning near the recently contained Madre Fire site, which consumed over 32,375 hectares (80,000 acres) earlier this summer.
California is currently battling multiple active fires totaling over 42,000 hectares, including the Orleans Complex at 81% containment and Green Fire at 96% containment, both burning since July.
