The National Weather Service confirmed that at least two tornadoes touched down Saturday night, as severe storms struck Wise and Parker counties, leaving a trail of destruction and displacing dozens of families.
In Wise County’s Runaway Bay area, one person was killed, several others were injured, and at least 20 families were forced from their homes as widespread structural damage hit multiple neighborhoods, CBS News reported Sunday.
In neighboring Parker County, another person was killed after strong rear flank downdraft winds hit an area south of Springtown, officials said.
According to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office, a woman called 911 on Saturday after finding a relative in the debris of a storm-damaged home on Hutchenson Hill Road. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and confirmed the death of a 69-year-old woman. Her identity has not yet been released.
