Turkey’s aid agency, 'Turkiye Diyanet Foundation' (TDV), distributed 3,500 food parcels to refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ethiopia’s Afar and Oromia states Monday during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

TDV’s Project Manager Yuksel Sezgin told Anadolu Agency the group gives priority to refugees and IDPs with every year’s delivery

“We’re trying to experience the blessing of Ramadan with our brothers and sisters and taking their prayers to our country,” he said.

The distribution ceremony in Oromia’s Sebeta County was attended by Turkey’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Yaprak Alp.

Aid recipient, Tayyibe Ahmed, receives help from TDV every Ramadan and said she is thankful to the Turkish people.

“I am taking care of my children by myself. I don’t have anything to feed them. These basic food materials will help us at least two to three months,” she said.

TDV will distribute food to more than 100,000 families in need, and will organize fast-breaking meals, of iftar, for nearly 200,000 people in 98 countries.

The organization will also provide clothing to more than 10,000 children from Bangladesh, Chad, Palestine, Niger, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

TDV has educational, cultural, social and humanitarian projects in more than 145 countries.
