Sudan premier sacks Gedaref governor over leaked video Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok

KHARTOUM, Sudan

Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok on Wednesday sacked Suleiman Ali, the governor of the Gedaref state, over a leaked video.

On Sunday, Hamdok threatened to dismiss the governor, if he does not resign after a leaked video showed the governor in a dissolved National Congress Party (NCP) meeting, campaigning for a party candidate.

The former ruling party was banned in 2019.

Defending himself, Ali said the video was shot in 2009, and that he had only appeared in the welcoming speech by order from the mayor and not as a member of NCP, denying his links to the dissolved party.
