Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok has received an official invitation to visit Qatar, according to the country’s foreign ministry on Saturday.

A ministry statement said the invitation was extended to the Sudanese premier during a meeting between Foreign Minister Mariam al-Sadiq and Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi in Cairo on the sidelines of an Arab ministerial meeting on Thursday.

According to the statement, Qatar reiterated its support to Sudan in regional and international forums, and willingness to boost joint cooperation with a view to strengthening bilateral relations.

In April, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, chairman of Sudan's ruling Sovereign Council, visited Qatar and met with top officials there, including Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.

According to the Sudanese Investment Ministry, Qatar's investments in Sudan are estimated at $3.8 billion.
