Pan-African body suspends Sudan from ‘all activities’

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia

The African Union (AU) has suspended Sudan’s participation in its activities.

This came shortly after a meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council earlier on Thursday.

At the meeting, Moussa Faki Mahamat, chairman of the AU Commission, presented his report on Sudan.

During a confrontation over the last couple of days between the military and the Sudanese holding sit-ins, more than 100 people were killed in the capital Khartoum and other major cities.

Sudan has remained in turmoil since April 11, when the military establishment announced the “removal” of President Omar al-Bashir after months of popular protests against his 30-year rule.
