Internet subscribers in Nigeria fell by 10.9 million in nearly one year, according to data that was released Tuesday.

Statistics from the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) indicated the number of subscribers fell from 151.3 million in January 2021 to 140.4 million in November.

The agency’s policy on the sanitization of mobile data and telephone numbers through a verification exercise since 2020 has trimmed subscribers, according to the agency.

The NCC said more Nigerians have opted for mobile data services than the wire system.

In November, the commission announced measures to improve internet service for subscribers.

Adeleke Adewolu, executive commissioner, or Stakeholders Management of the Commission, said the agency plans to improve broadband to give subscribers good services.
