Mauritania’s minister of culture and government spokesman resigned from his post on Friday, local media reported.

Sidi Mohamed Ould Maham’s resignation comes days after opposition candidates' rejection for results of presidential polls, in which the ruling party's candidate Mohamed Ould Ghazouani came first.

Details on Ould Maham’s resignation have yet to be known.

The country's election commission said Ould Ghazouani, a former defense minister, won 52.01% of the vote held on Saturday'.

"We do not recognize the results announced by the electoral commission," Mohammed Ould Mouloud, who won only 2.44% of the votes, told a press conference in the capital Nouakchott Monday.

That press conference was attended by other opposition candidates Kane Hamidou Baba, Mohamed Ould Boubaker and Biram Ould Dah Ould Abeid.
