JOHANNESBURG
Eight people were killed in an explosion at the Denel Munition Company in Cape Town on Monday, a city official confirmed.
Theo Layne, a spokesman for the Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services told local television, eNCA. the cause of at the Rheinmetall Denel Munition plant has not yet been determined.
The company is the largest manufacturer of military equipment in South Africa. Four people are reported to have sustained serious injuries.
company, Denel SOC Ltd, South Africa’s state weapons company, sent condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones.
According to its website, Denel SOC owns 51 percent of the company and Germany’s GmbH 49 percent.
