KINSHASA, Democratic Republic of Congo

A bus accident in western Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has left 25 people dead, an official said late Sunday.

Willy Atunakow, the provincial transport minister, said forty others were injured at Kwenge bridge in Kwilu province.

He said high speed and brake failure had contributed to the accident.

Road accidents are common in DRC, where both vehicles and roads are often poorly maintained.

On Friday, 11 people were killed and 30 injured in a road accident between Kananga and Mbuji-Mayi.
