ISIL opens medical school in Syria

RAQQA, Syria

The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant has announced the opening of a school of medicine in the city of Raqqa in Syria, an AA correspondent reports.

Posters about the medical school were placed in several areas, according to local activists.

The posters detail the conditions of admission, namely that the applicants should be between 18 and 30 years old and must have graduated from high school.

Female students are allowed to apply.

The AA correspondent, who was able to get a hold of a copy of the poster, could not verify the announcement.

Raqqa is considered to be the main stronghold of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL, in Syria.

The militant ISIL group has captured large swathes of land in Iraq and Syria, declaring what it calls a cross-border Islamic caliphate, killing thousands of people and displacing millions more in the process.
