Five foreign citizens suspected of being Daesh members have been detained in south-central Turkey’s Kilis province, Turkish authorities said Thursday.

According to Kilis Governor’s Office, three foreign citizens were detained while trying to cross the border from Syria into Turkey.

Separately, Kilis police sources said that they detained two foreign citizens trying to cross into Syria from Turkey.

Thousands of foreign fighters from all over the world are believed to have joined terrorist organizations, including Daesh in Syria and Iraq.

Turkey shares a 900-kilometer long border with Syria.

Daesh is among terrorist organizations accused of killing 102 people in two back-to-back bombings at a rally in the Turkish capital of Ankara on Oct. 10.
