Six people were killed and 17 injured in a series of armed attacks and explosions that rocked different parts of Baghdad on Wednesday, according to a local police source.

“Three homemade bombs went off in public areas in Baghdad’s Taji, Tarmiya and Al-Aamel neighborhoods,” a local police captain, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Anadolu Agency.

The multiple blasts, he said, had left four people dead and at least 17 injured.

“Unidentified militants also carried out two other attacks, killing two civilians in Baghdad’s northeastern Al-Shaab and Ur neighborhoods,” the police official added.

In recent years, shootings and bomb attacks – along with other acts violence – have become a daily occurrence in Iraq’s capital and in other parts of the war-ravaged country.

Such attacks, which have left numerous dead and injured across the country, frequently target civilians.

In recent weeks, Baghdad has seen an uptick in violence, responsibility for which has often been claimed by the Daesh militant group.

Daesh has posed a major threat to Iraq’s civilian population since it overran the country’s northern Mosul province – along with vast swathes of Syria – in the summer of last year.
