MOSCOW
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said he believes a "chance for peace" in Ukraine has been reached.
Lavrov's statement came on Friday hours after Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko issued a statement saying that no Ukrainian military personnel had been wounded or killed in the past 24 hours.
Lavrov said at a meeting of the Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund in Moscow: "A real chance to establish peace in Ukraine has appeared."
"It was difficult, but nonetheless negotiations and a ceasefire have been established."
"We also have a common basis for constructive progress on other issues, including economic recovery in Donbass and a political dialogue, which should ultimately lead to a constitutional reform in Ukraine with the participation of all regions and all political forces," he added.
The conflict in eastern Ukraine between the government and pro-Russian separatists has left 3,600 dead and 8,700 wounded between mid-April and 6 October, according to a UN report.
