WASHINGTON

The U.S. vice president on Tuesday welcomed the formation of a new Ukrainian government.

"Today’s announcement on the formation of a new government sets the stage for the difficult but necessary process of implementing reforms and delivering results," Joe Biden said in a statement.

The U.S. will support Ukraine’s new government to stabilize the country, Biden said, and would continue to "stand for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of Russian aggression."

The newly-formed Ukraine parliament last week re-elected Arseniy Yatsenyuk as prime minister, who garnered the support of 341 of 450 lawmakers in parliament.

President Petro Poroshenko delivered a speech ahead of the vote asking lawmakers to support Yatsenyuk.

"The Ukraine constitution gives me 15 days to propose a prime minister and I need 15 seconds to ascertain him."

The parliament also approved Cabinet members Tuesday.

Yatsenyuk’s party, the People's Front, won early elections Oct. 26, securing 22.17 percent of the vote.

He played a key role against Moscow-backed former president Viktor Yanukovich and took office as the country’s 15th prime minister in February.

Yatsenyuk also served as economy minister foreign minister and Parliament Speaker.

In 2010, Yatsenyuk vied for the presidency, placing fourth in the election.
