KIEV
The number of Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, or OSCE, members will increase from 260 to 500 until the end of 2014, according to the organization's deputy chief monitor.
Currently, 260 observers work around the country, 130 of whom in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of eastern Ukraine, Alexander Hug said Wednesday.
He said they planned to increase the number of observers to 500 and they would send 350 of them to the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
The Minsk agreement was signed after extensive talks between Russia, Ukraine and pro-Russian separatists under the auspices of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
The agreement, which followed previous attempts to stop fighting in the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine, implemented an immediate cease-fire that failed to stop fighting in eastern parts of the region.
Unrest in eastern Ukraine has torn the region apart since April, when Kiev launched military operations in the Donetsk and Luhansk provinces to restore government control, after separatists declared independence in the region.
