WASHINGTON

President Barack Obama will meet his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, a White House official confirmed Sunday.

The meeting will be the second face-to-face between the leaders since Washington and Havana committed to normalizing relations last December.

They last met in April in Panama.

Obama began a three-day trip to New York for the UN General Assembly on Sunday. He is expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday as Washington continues to voice concern over Russia's support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Obama will also chair a summit on combatting Daesh and violent extremism on Tuesday.
