UK carries out further airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq

LONDON

The UK has hit more Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant targets through airstrikes in Iraq, the Foreign Office has announced.

Officials claimed on Monday that a single ISIL-armed vehicle was hit in an air-strike at Al-Qaim, north-west Baghdad, over the weekend.

They also said that the Royal Air Force destroyed "a heavily armed ISIL pick-up truck" on Monday morning.

The FCO displayed a video on their website which appeared to show a vehicle being blown up.

British lawmakers voted 524 - 43 for air strikes on ISIL targets in Iraq on September 26.

Secret location

Last month, the U.K. government announced it was using Reaper drones to fly surveillance missions over Syria.

It is understood the drones will fly alongside Rivet Joint spy planes, which carry eavesdropping sensors.

The Reaper can be armed, but does not have authorization to fire.

The drones were used in Afghanistan, but have since been moved to a secret location in the Middle East.

ISIL has captured large swathes of land in Iraq and Syria, declaring what it calls a cross-border Islamic "caliphate," killing thousands of people and displacing millions in the two countries.
