The Israeli army has said that Hamas fired a total of 61 rockets at Israel on Wednesday.
"Hamas has fired 61 rockets today. 37 of them hit Israel; 23 were intercepted by Iron Dome [anti-missile defense system]," the army said on its official Twitter account.
Earlier in the day, Israel's Magen David Adom emergency service said its medics had treated nine people who were slightly injured by a rocket salvo from the Gaza Strip.
Gaza-based resistance factions have continued to fire rockets at Israel – some of which have reached Tel Aviv – in response to a deadly air offensive against the Palestinian enclave, now in its second week.
Since Israel's air campaign began, one Israeli has been killed as a result of rocket fire from Gaza.
At least 209 Palestinians, meanwhile, mostly civilians, have been killed in unrelenting Israeli airstrikes on the blockaded strip since July 7.
More than 1552 Palestinians have also been injured, many seriously, by ongoing aerial attacks by Israel, which are ostensibly aimed at stopping rocket fire from Gaza.
The ongoing operation, dubbed "Operation Protective Edge," is Israel's third major offensive against the embattled Gaza Strip – home to some 1.8 million Palestinians – in the last six years.
