THE HAGUE, Netherlands
The leader of Dutch ultranationalist party for Freedom (PVV) Geert Wilders faces discrimination charges after promising “fewer Moroccans” in the Netherlands at a meeting following local elections on Wednesday.
After asking supporters in The Hague if they wanted “more or fewer Moroccans in this county,” Wilders led the crowd to chant “fewer, fewer” late Wednesday night. “We’re going to organize that,” the far right leader answered.
The Grouping of Dutch-Moroccans Foundation said on Thursday that it would file charges of discrimination against Wilders.
The Dutch Moroccan Cooperation Bond secretary Aissa Zazen deemed the comment “unacceptable” and stated that they would, too, file a complaint.
An unnamed The Hague resident has already pressed charges.
Geert Wilders has campaigned to halt what he views as the "Islamization of the Netherlands and Europe". In 2011, he was cleared of hate charges against Muslims by a Dutch court. He had then compared the holy Quran to Hitler’s ‘Mein Kampf’.
