Polish doctors remove 35-pound tumor after man’s symptoms attributed to poor lifestyle
14-inch, 35-lb tumor along with left kidney, portion of colon removed from 56-year-old man
ISTANBUL
Polish surgeons removed a 35-centimeter (14-inch), 16-kilogram (35-lb) tumor from a man whose symptoms were initially attributed to poor lifestyle habits, broadcaster TVP World reported on Sunday.
The 56-year-old man reported abdominal pain and growing discomfort a year before undergoing an operation at University Clinical Hospital No. 1 in the southeastern Polish city of Lublin.
As his symptoms worsened, scans revealed a large tumor in the abdominal area housing vital organs, including the kidneys, ureters, a significant portion of the pancreas, and major blood vessels.
The operation lasted about two and a half hours on Thursday and the surgeons also removed the patient's left kidney and a portion of his colon, along with the massive tumor.
