Anadolu holds conversation on diplomacy reporting
Diplomacy correspondent Muhammet Tarhan shares with 40 students his experience of reporting on diplomacy

ANKARA
A conversation on “Being a Diplomacy Correspondent” was held on Friday at Anadolu’s headquarters in Ankara.
A total of 40 students from the Diplomacy Academy at the Divan Research and Education Association participated in the event, which was organized in coordination with the association.
Muhammet Tarhan, a diplomacy correspondent at Anadolu, shared his experiences with the students of reporting on diplomacy.
Tarhan said they follow international summits and are in close contact with institutions such as the Foreign Ministry, diplomatic missions in Türkiye, Yunus Emre Institute (YEE), Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB) and Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).
Emphasizing that diplomacy reporters should know the working system and structure of the Foreign Ministry, he said they carefully examine statements from the ministry.
“One of the most important aspects of reporting on diplomacy is the follow-up of foreign policy,” Tarhan said, adding that they should follow developments in domestic politics as well as foreign policy.
Speaking about difficulties while reporting on diplomacy, Tarhan said at times an interview request is rejected or the interview does not attract attention.
He advised students to ask spot-on questions in interviews and use time effectively.
Tarhan added that international relations graduates have an advantage in reporting on diplomacy.
Cihangir Isbilir, the director of AA News Academy, thanked the students for their participation and offered career suggestions.
A question-and-answer session was held at the end of the talk.
