Germany's Economy Minister Peter Altmaier on Tuesday said he was optimistic that Germany would build the country's first two LNG terminals in the foreseeable future.
Altmaier spoke during an LNG conference in German capital Berlin and said the government would financially support the potential construction of the LNG terminals.
Germany is highly dependent on Russian piped gas and has no LNG terminals.
Germany imports an average of around 80 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas per year from which in 2017 around 45 percent came from Russia. The remainder was imported from the Netherlands, Norway and Denmark.
