Turkey’s leading mobile phone operator Turkcell will establish an electricity trading company, it announced in a statement sent to Turkey's Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) on Friday.
Turktell Bilisim (Informatic) Incorporated Company, a subsidiary of which Turkcell, will establish Turkcell's new energy company with 2 million Turkish liras in capital.
The company will conduct retail and wholesale electricity trade, Turkcell said.
After the company is established, it will apply for an electricity trade license to Turkey's Energy Market Regulatory Authority.
In Turkey, GSM-based mobile communication began when Turkcell commenced operations in 1994. Since then, it has continuously expanded its services based on mobile audio and data communication.
