TRABZON
Military supplies of the German troops who have served under the International Security and Assistance Force (ISAF), affiliated with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Afghanistan, started being shipped back to Germany via Turkey’s northern province of Trabzon on Monday.
The first shipment was made on Monday with Danish flagged ship "Suecia Seaways" after it was loaded with German military supplies in Trabzon.
German Armed Forces Joint Commander Vice Admiral Manfred Nielson said, they expected 60 cargo planes that would arrive in Trabzon from Afghanistan monthly from now on and the next ship will sail from Trabzon to Germany in October.
Nielson said, there were no weapons in the shipment and there would never be any and they would not do anything against the memorandum of understanding that they signed with Turkish government.
Recep Kizilcik, Governor of Turkey's northern city of Trabzon, had said, "German military equipment will be dispatched from Afghanistan to Germany via Trabzon for 2.5 years."
German troops, who have been deployed with the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, had chosen Trabzon as the center for military shipment.
