'Festival Literaturk' turns 9

ESSEN (AA) - The ninth edition of Festival Literaturk, a Turkish-German literature festival, opened Monday in Ruhr Basin of Germany.

Renowned Turkish poet and writer Murathan Mungan was the guest of honor at the opening ceremony of the festival which will last till October 9, 2013. 

Reading workshops, interviews and conferences will be held in key cities of the region such as Essen, Dortmund and Gelsenkirchen with theater plays as well.

Turkey's Consul General in Essen Sule Ozkaya, speaking at the opening ceremony, said that "multidimensional traditional Turkish-German friendship will improve more with these kinds of activities, enabling integration of societies."

Also among the guests of the festival are journalist-writer Can Dundar, Alper Caniguz and Tanil Bora.
