Washington in discussions with India over sale of Venezuelan oil: US envoy
'The (US) Department of Energy is speaking to the Ministry of Energy here and we are hoping to have some news on that very soon,' says US ambassador to India
ISTANBUL
The US is discussing the sale of Venezuelan oil to India, the US special envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs said Friday.
While some aspects have not been announced yet, they are in "active negotiation," added Sergio Gor, who is also US ambassador to India.
"The (US) Department of Energy is speaking to the Ministry of Energy here and we are hoping to have some news on that very soon," he said on the sidelines of a summit in New Delhi on artificial intelligence.
Last month, US President Donald Trump said that India will buy oil from Venezuela instead of Iran, which is under US sanctions, saying: "India is coming in, and they're going to be buying Venezuelan oil."
