Greece’s Turkish minority had “written history together with the Greek people”, a group of Turkish-Greek lawmakers said on Monday in a statement on the country’s bailout referendum.

The three deputies for the Syriza ruling coalition that had called for the rejection of the austerity proposals thanked the Turkish minority for supporting the “No” campaign.

Mustafa Mustafa, Ayhan Karayusuf and Huseyin Zeybek – who represent the Turkish community in Western Thrace said referendum result had strengthened Greece’s negotiating position with its creditors.

According to the Greek Interior Ministry, the Turkish community supported the “No” vote in Rodop, Iskece (Xanthi) and Evros counties.

The referendum asked Greeks to vote on proposals to raise taxes and cut government spending and were rejected by more than 61 percent of voters.
