Ten people were killed and 13 others were injured Monday in several incidents in the Iraqi capital, a police source told Anadolu Agency.

The source said that two police officers were killed after a drive-by attack on a police vehicle in al-Baladiyat area in eastern Baghdad.

Also, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a car near the Ministry of Transportation in eastern Baghdad, leaving three civilians dead.

Two people lost their lives and eight others were injured in an improvised bomb explosion near a local market in al-Taji district in northern Baghdad.

Another improvised bomb attack killed one civilian and wounded five others in Abu Deshir in southern Baghdad.

The source also said that police found two bodies of a male and a female with bullet holes in the head and chest.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi called for greater efforts to limit terrorist attacks and to combat “whoever undermines the capital’s security.”

Abadi had lifted Baghdad’s eight-year curfew on Feb. 7, citing “improved security conditions.”

Iraq was plunged into a security vacuum in June 2014 when Daesh stormed the northern city of Mosul and declared what it called a caliphate in Iraq and Syria.
