Syria: Airstrike kills 15 al-Nusra militants in Aleppo

ALEPPO, Syria

At least 15 suspected al-Nusra militants were killed in a coalition airstrike on the al Qaeda affiliated group’s headquarters in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo Wednesday, Aleppo’s civil defense unit said.

According to the civil defense, the U.S.-led international coalition planes targeted two buildings of the al-Nusra Front in the western village of Tawama.

Many vehicles were also left destroyed under the collapsed headquarters, it added.

Also, local activists attacked al-Nusra headquarters in the town of Qansafra in Syria’s northern province of Idlib. Due to safety reasons, al-Nusra militants did not allow anyone to approach the area of the headquarters, activists said.

Meanwhile, Daesh advanced toward Tadmur city Wednesday and seized a number of security points after clashes with Assad regime forces, backed by Hezbollah militia fighters, opposition groups said.

Fierce clashes, including heavy shelling, are ongoing since last week between the Syrian regime and Daesh on the outskirts of Tadmur city where the Palmyra historical site is located. According to some unconfirmed media reports, most of Palmyra was now under control of Daesh.

The U.S.-led coalition has been carrying out airstrikes against Daesh and a smaller number of al-Nusra targets in Iraq and Syria since mid-September 2014.
