At least 54 dead after Russian fishing vessel sinks

MOSCOW 

A Russian fishing vessel sank in the Sea of Okhotsk, leaving at least 54 people dead, local officials in Kamchatka Peninsula said Thursday. 

Authorities added that 63 out of the 132 people on board were rescued and that search operations for the remaining victims were underway.

Among the crew members, there were 78 Russians, 42 Myanmarians, two Latvians, four Ukrainians and five nationals from Vanuatu. 

The cause of the incident is now under investigation.
