BAGHDAD

At least 78 militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL, and eight Baghdadi civilians were killed and 23 other people were injured in separate clashes in Baghdad and Anbar provinces in western Iraq on Saturday, according to Iraqi army sources.

The Iraqi Defense Ministry released a statement and said that Iraqi forces have launched an attack against ISIL militants in al-Karma district, east of Fallujah. The statement also confirmed that during the attacks 53 militants, including five senior commanders, were killed.

Separately, Baghdad Operations Command announced that 25 ISIL militants were killed and a dozens of terrorists’ weapons and vehicles were also neutralized in the northern Baghdad.

In addition, security officials said that eight people were killed and 23 others were injured in three separate attacks against Iraqi civilians across Iraq on Saturday.

Clashes between Iraqi forces and the militant group ISIL have been ongoing since June 2014 when the armed group seized Mosul and other territories in Iraq.

This prompted the U.S. to form an international coalition, which has launched numerous airstrikes against ISIL targets in both Iraq and Syria.
