Hundreds of Palestinians took part on Friday in the funeral of a 25-year-old man killed in a Thursday raid on his home in the town of Birzeit near Ramallah following an hours-long siege by Israeli security forces.

Amid demands for retribution and suspension of ongoing peace talks with Israel, mourners carried the body of Motaz Washaha from his home to the town mosque for funeral prayers before burying him in a local cemetery.

Several leaders of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, of which Washaha had been a member, participated in Friday's funeral.

Washaha was found dead after Israeli troops withdrew from his home, which they had besieged for several hours after its inhabitants had refused to open their doors to Israeli security forces.

Israeli authorities partially demolished the house in order to enter it and arrested three people, eyewitnesses said.

"Israeli forces could have arrested Washaha, but they were determined to kill him," the man's grieving mother, Eitzaaz Washaha, told Anadolu Agency.

"My son wasn't armed," she said. "He was killed after the house was bombed."

She added: "I'm not sad. "He sought martyrdom, and he got it."
