GAZA (AA) – The latest outcry to the Israeli blockade on Gaza came from Palestinian children in the form of a candle protest in the city.

Numerous children who are frustrated with power cuts due to fuel shortage, thanks to the strict Israeli embargo gathered at Saraya Square and did their homework before playing games.

“When will the international society start acting for us? When will the world hear us? We urge the world to set free Gaza from Israeli blockade” Ali al-Turk, one of the candle holding Palestinian children read in a press statement on behalf of all children during the protest.

Some placards held by children read “Gaza with no fuel, electricity, medicine!” and “We are in danger”.

Region’s one and only power plant’s electricity production came to a halt due to fuel crisis following the destruction of tunnels that connected Gaza to Egypt – the only connection to the outer world. The tunnels were destructed after the military coup that ousted President Morsi in Egypt four months ago.

A land, air and sea blockade imposed by Israel on Gaza in 2007 still continue.
