Arab countries slam Israel over cancelling UNESCO visit in Jerusalem

CAIRO

The Arab League has condemned Israel for cancelling a visit by a group officials from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to Jerusalem's Old City, saying the Jewish state tried to hide evidence that shows its efforts to transform the physical and demographic landscape of the holy city.

"We condemn Israel for underestimating the international community, and denying UNESCO delegation access to Jerusalem. Israel wants to hide the dangers of its policy of Judaization of Jerusalem, and keep its out of public sight," the Arab League said in a statement. It has also made a call to the international community to pressure Israel to comply with the international rules, or otherwise impose sanctions on the Jewish state.

On Monday, Israeli Foreign Ministry said that  the planned tour of UNESCO officials in Jerusalem was canceled.
