GAZA CITY, Palestine

Egyptian authorities will open Rafah crossing with the Gaza Strip on Tuesday for three days, a Palestinian official said.

“Egyptian authorities have informed the Palestinian side that the Rafah crossing will be opened in both directions for three days starting on Tuesday until Thursday,” Palestinian Authority (PA) border chief Nazmi Mehanna told Anadolu Agency.

“Traveling will be for students, patients and people who have residence permits abroad and foreign passports,” he added.

Egypt opened the Rafah crossing on June 13 for one week.

Cairo has tightened its grip on the border with the blockaded Gaza Strip since 2013, following the ouster of elected President Mohamed Morsi in a military coup.

The long periods of closure at the crossing, Gaza's only point of access to the outside world not under Israeli control, have made life even more difficult for Gaza's roughly 1.9 million residents.
