Airstrikes kill 47 people in northern Syria

At least 47 people were killed and scores others were injured in two separate alleged Bashar al-Assad regime airstrikes in the northern Syrian province of Idlib, opposition forces said Saturday.

According to the Syrian Revolution General Commission, a regime jet dropped a vacuum bomb on a residential area in Kafr Obaid town that left 32 people dead and dozens others injured.

Meanwhile, the Local Coordination Committees of Syria said in a statement that 15 people were killed and a number of people were injured in another alleged regime vacuum bomb airstrike on a local market in Saraqib city. The dead included several women and children. The injured were taken to the Sahra hospital for treatment.

The London-based nongovernmental organization, the Syrian Network for Human Rights, also reported both attacks. However, there was no way to independently verify the claims.

The Local Coordination Committees of Syria are groups of local Syrian activists who oppose the Assad regime and publish news via social media websites.

The Syrian Revolution General Commission represents a coalition of Syria opposition groups fighting the Assad regime in Syria.

Syrian opposition factions, under a single military group named Jeysh al-Fatah, had reportedly seized full control of Idlib in northern Syria in March.
