The majority of opinion polls conducted prior to Sunday’s general election failed to predict the outcome.

According to initial results, the Justice and Development (AK) Party secured 49.29 percent of the vote -- a higher vote proportion than any of the predictions.

Of the seven companies that conducted polls in the run-up to the election, A&G's estimates were the closest with a difference of 2 percentage points. SONAR provided the least accurate results, miscalculating by nearly 9 points.

The polling companies’ estimates were:

A&G: AK Party 47.2 percent; Republican People's Party (CHP) 25.3 percent; Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) 13.5 percent; Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) 12.2 percent.

PollMark: AK Party 43.9 percent; CHP 25.4 percent; MHP 14.8 percent; HDP 12.3 percent.

ANDY-AR: AK Party 43.7 percent; CHP 27.1 percent; MHP 14.2 percent; HDP 13.8 percent.

Metropoll: AK Party 43.3 percent; CHP 25.9 percent; MHP 14.8 percent; HDP 13.4 percent.

ORC:  AK Party 43.3 percent; CHP 27.4 percent; MHP 14 percent; HDP 12.2 percent.

Konda: AK Party 41.7 percent; CHP 27.9 percent; MHP 14.2 percent; HDP 13.8 percent.

SONAR: AK Party 40.5 percent; CHP 27.3 percent; MHP 15.2 percent; HDP 13.1 percent.

With all the votes counted, the AK Party led with 49.29 percent votes (314 seats), followed by the CHP on 25.56 percent (135 seats).

The MHP got 12.03 percent votes (42 seats) while the HDP secured 10.55 percent (59 seats).

The vote had been called following June's inconclusive general election that saw no party win a majority and coalition talks fail to produce an administration.
