An Istanbul court remanded two executives of a Turkish weekly magazine in custody on Tuesday over armed insurgency charges against the Turkish government.

In accordance with the court’s decision, Nokta Magazine’s executive Cevheri Guven and editor-in-chief Murat Capan were arrested after police had detained them earlier because of the magazine's latest cover.

The verdict said that the 24th issue showed a picture of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the cover with the headline "The beginning of Turkey’s civil war”, which it claimed "incited people to commit crimes".

The magazine allegedly blamed the president and other governmental officials of creating chaos in the country, the court decision said.

The magazine was also confiscated back in September for manipulating an image depicting Erdogan taking a “selfie” photo in front of a Turkish soldier’s coffin.
