ISTANBUL
Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, has claimed responsibility for Monday's suicide bombing and a subsequent armed attack on Fatih Police Station in Sultanbeyli district of Istanbul.
According to a report Tuesday on a website close to the PKK, the attack on the police station was carried out by the members of the group, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU.
At least 10 people, including three police officers, have been wounded in the attack early Monday morning, security sources have said.
Istanbul police took into custody Tuesday three suspects in relation to the attack.
Police have been carrying out nationwide anti-terror operations to apprehend suspected PKK, Daesh, and DHKP-C militants -- all three are designated terrorist organizations in Turkey. The latter, the far-left Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front, was allegedly involved in an attack on the U.S. consulate in Istanbul on Monday.
Since July 24, around 1,600 people have been arrested in the wave of counter-terrorism raids, amid a spike in attacks targeting security officers after the July 20 deadly suicide bombing in southeastern Suruc district that killed 32.
