The majority of Tuesday’s newspapers dedicated their front pages to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s response to a New York Times editorial and to Galatasaray's claim of the Turkish league title.

VATAN ran with the headline: “Who are you? Know your place,” referring to Erdogan’s remarks.

Delivering a speech in Istanbul on Monday, Erdogan said, “You are a newspaper. Know your place. You are interfering in Turkey’s affairs.”

His remarks came after the New York Times published on Friday an editorial titled "Dark Clouds Over Turkey", criticizing Erdogan’s rule.

“While the country has faced tough political campaigns before, the mood seems unusually dark and fearful,” the editorial said. “Mr. Erdogan appears increasingly hostile to truth-telling. The United States and Turkey’s other NATO allies should be urging him to turn away from this destructive path.”

“Can you do (write) this to U.S. administration. They will do immediately what is necessary,” Erdogan asked,  implying that the White House would not have taken kindly to a similar editorial against the Obama administration.

Similarly MILLIYET and HURRIYET used the same headline: “Know your place, New York Times,” with both dailies saying that Erdogan had given a stern response to the newspaper.

In other news, HURRIYET mentioned the latest statements by the leader of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP).

HURRIYET described HDP as a "Robin Hood movement", referring to remarks made by the party co-chair Selahattin Demirtas.

"We will be a movement, which takes (the money) from the rich and give it to the poor," he said during a campaign rally in the southern province of Mugla, criticizing the president Erdogan and prime minister Ahmet Davutoglu's actions, ahead of the June 7 parliamentary elections.

Similarly, VATAN  mentioned Demirtas's campaign promise to take from the rich and give to the poor, headlining: "We are a Robin Hood movement."

Galatasaray claiming the Turkish Super League title was also extensively covered.

Running a photo of Galatasaray supporters rejoicing in the streets of Istanbul, VATAN's headline read: “… And champion.”

On Monday, Fenerbahce surrendered the Spor Toto Super League title to Galatasaray after suffering a 2-2 draw against Istanbul Basaksehir in Istanbul on Monday. The Red Lions have won their 20th league title, an unprecendented feat in Turkish football.

“Galatasaray (have become) champion for 20th time,” was HURRIYET’s headline, while AKSAM wrote: "Four-star champion.”

Galatasaray become the first team in Turkish football history to have four stars on their shirts. A Turkish team wins a star for every five championship victories.

Galatasaray will participate in the Champions League next season, while runners-up Fenerbahce will play qualification rounds.
