The arrest came late on Sunday, a day after the AK Party MP candidate Ramazan Demir was stabbed three times with a knife by two apparently drunk attackers.

Faruk S., 31 was arrested while other suspect Muhammed F., 22, was released by the court.

The two suspects had been taken into custody by police officers at the scene and were transferred to a court Saturday.

The Adana governor Mustafa Buyuk said Saturday that Demir had not been critically injured.

About 56 million Turks will vote in the country's 25th general election to elect 550 lawmakers to the Turkish Grand National Assembly on June 7.
