Summer time to begin overnight in Turkey

ANKARA

Clocks in Turkey are going forward one hour at 3 a.m. on Sunday, March 29, marking the shift to summer time.

Time shifts are usually scheduled for midnight at a weekend to lessen disruption to the weekday schedule.

Daylight saving time will end on Sunday, October 25, when clocks will be set back an hour at 4 a.m.

Daylight saving time was first used in countries such as Germany, Ireland and the United Kingdom during World War I to conserve coal.

Turkey adopted daylight saving time to keep its clocks in sync with those of European countries and to decrease the demand for electricity in the early evening hours.
