Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will the sixth president heading a cabinet meeting after the country's transition to a multi-party system in 1946.

The cabinet meeting held at 11.00 a.m. Turkish local time (0900GMT).

Following the meeting, deputy prime minister and government spokesman Bulent Arinc is expected to make a statement to reporters at the presidency's press office.

Before Erdogan, former presidents Cemal Gursel, Fahri Koruturk, Kenan Evren, Turgut Ozal and Suleyman Demirel have all chaired cabinet meetings in the past.

The fourth president Gursel, sixth president Koruturk and ninth president Demirel each chaired cabinet meetings twice.

The last meeting was chaired by the ninth president Demirel on May 12, 2000, four days before his presidency came to an end.
