Four people have been killed in airstrikes that hit a hospital in northern Syria on Tuesday, according to a hospital source.

A number of people were also injured in the regime attack near the city of Idlib, including several of the hospital’s medical staff.

The airstrikes caused serious losses to the infrastructure and medical equipment of the hospital.

The hospital is considered to be the most equipped hospital in the area and provides its services -mostly surgery operations- for free, according to the same source.

The regime's airstrikes had targeted the hospital several times before.

The Syrian regime’s airstrikes have intensified against civilians in the area after opposition factions led by Al-Nusra seized Wadi Al-Dayf and Al-Hamidiyeh on Monday morning, two important regime army bases.

The Al-Nusra Front is a militant opposition group, which is reported to be allied with Al-Qaeda.

Opposition forces in March 2011 began protests to topple President Bashar Al-Assad, a struggle that turned into a civil war in July of that year after the regime forces violently suppressed the demonstrations.
