ANKARA

Portugal narrowly beat Serbia 2-1 in their UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying group game in Lisbon on Sunday, climbing to the top of Group I.

The home side scored the leading goal at Estadio da Luz when 36-year-old center-back Ricardo Carvalho found the net in the 10th minute.

Serbia midfielder Nemanja Matic equalized in the 61st minute; however, two minutes later Fabio Coentrao made it two for Portugal.

The win against Serbia leave Portugal on nine points in Group I. Meanwhile, Serbia bring up the rear as they have only one point after four matches.

Serbia has also had three points deducted due to fan trouble at previous games.
