Football: Germany extend Low's deal

BERLIN

The German Football Association, or DFB, extended Friday their deal with Germany's national manager, Joachim Low, until 2018.

According to the written statement on the DFB website, Low's contract has been renewed until July 31, 2018.

The deals of Germany coach Thomas Schneider and goalkeeping coach Andreas Kopke were also extended, the statement said.

DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach expressed his delight at keeping Low as Germany’s manager for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

"We want to stay on top. This is our mutual aim," said Niersbach.

Low pointed out that they have a young squad and that he wants to consolidate their success in Brazil.

Low was appointed by his home country after the 2006 FIFA World Cup held in Germany. This is the fifth time Low has renewed his deal with the DFB post-2006. The German manager's previous deal was valid until UEFA Euro 2016, which will be held in France.

Joachim Low led Germany to victory in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Other achievements of the Low-era include Germany coming third in UEFA Euro 2012 and the 2010 FIFA World Cup as well as a second-place finish in UEFA Euro 2008.
